Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, April 27th until april 29th
Season Opening
For the most popular international touring car series, the 2012 season will be the 13th since its revival back in 2000. And the motor-racing enthusiasts may look forward to an even more thrilling DTM season and quite a number of innovations: BMW, the third German premium-car manufacturer, is going to make its DTM comeback to battle it out with Audi and Mercedes-Benz. The high-tech touring cars competing in DTM always have been among the most fascinating vehicles in international motor racing. The rear-wheel drive, powered by 480bhp, the roaring sound of the V8 engines and the spectacular appearance speak for themselves. And in 2012, all the three manufacturers will contest the season with all new DTM vehicles: the Audi A5 DTM, BMW M3 DTM and DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé.
Despite being an international touring-car series, DTM remains committed
to its German roots. The new season traditionally will be kicked-off at
the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg - on 29th April. In addition,
another five DTM round will be held in Germany: at the Lausitzring (6th
May), Nuremberg’s Norisring (01st July), the Nürburgring in the Eifel
region (19th August), the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben (16th September)
- and the season finale at Hockenheim (21st October). Meanwhile four
championship rounds will be held abroad: on 20th May, DTM will make a
stop at Brands Hatch/UK and two weeks later (03rd June), the DTM teams
and drivers will battle it out for points and the race win at Austria’s
Red-Bull-Ring. The other two abroad races will be held at Zandvoort,
Netherlands (26th August) and Valencia, Spain (30th September). And just
as it was the case this year, the DTM enthusiasts may look forward to
an additional highlight: the show event in Munich’s Olympic Stadium. The
second edition of this top-class motor-sport spectacle will be held on
15th July. Race action in a stadium atmosphere, a multifaceted support
programme and live concerts will turn the weekend in the Olympic stadium
into a truly memorable experience.
On every single race weekend, the most popular international touring-car
series will provide motor racing at its best - and for the entire
family. The race weekends are kicked off on Friday morning with the
roll-out, followed by two practice sessions held on Friday afternoon and
Saturday morning. On Saturday afternoon, in the four-step qualifying
session, the drivers will battle it out for the best positions on the
starting grid for the race that will be started on Sunday at 14:00hrs.
And throughout the weekend, the Formula 3 Euro Series and other partner
series will make for loads of single-seater and tin-top race action. To
cut a long story short: in 2012, the fans once again may look forward to
thrilling and attractive motor sport accompanied by a multifaceted and
eventful support programme.
Once again, fans can look forward to an action-packed event at Hockenheim.
